ZANZIBAR - The name alone awakens romantic feelings.
This tropical island in the Indian Ocean lies approximately 60 km off
the coast of Tanzania. It unites the charm of the South Sea with the
exotic Muslim culture and most of the local people make their living
from spice cultivation. Here, time stands still and this entices both
visitors seeking the numerous palm-lined paradise beaches and those
interested in the world cultural heritage of Stone Town.
And not to be forgotten: Zanzibar’s most famous son, Freddy Mercury, was
born in Stone Town on the 5th of September, 1946.
